The Warrenton boys wrestling team had an eventful day on the mat after placing first overall in the Fort Zumwalt South Invitational on Jan. 25. The Warriors found themselves at the top of the podium, beating out 17 teams.
In addition, three Warriors claimed their weight-class title. These individuals were Zayden Teson (19-1), Manny McCauley (28-1) and Noah Lohrmann (27-4).
Lucas Burroughs (15-11), Korben Johnson (18-11), Jamarion Fulton (19-11) and Nathan Donovan (14-11) each medaled third.
In the 113-pound class, Teson defeated three opponents. In the quarterfinal, he won by technical fall over Fort Zumwalt West’s Tyson Staats. Then, he went on to win by fall over Orchard Farm’s Nathan Keachie. In the championship match, Teson won by a 12-3 major decision over Fort Zumwalt South’s Kanyon Shurtz.
At 126, McCauley defeated his first two opponents by technical fall. In the championship match, he battled for three rounds until he eventually won by fall over Eureka's Connor Stephans.
At 138, Lohrmann defeated Owensville’s Diego Lansford in the first round by fall. In the semifinal, he battled with Mehlville’s Dominic Ramos for three rounds but rallied to win by technical fall. To secure the weight title, Lohrmann won a 20-8 major decision over McCluer’s Tristen King.
Donovan, who competed in the 106-class, won three out of four matches. In the semifinal, he lost a 12-4 major decision to Fort Zumwalt South’s Mason Pullen but then later won a 7-4 decision over Belleville West’s Wyatt Dahm in the third-place match.
At 165, Fulton won his first two matches until he lost a 9-6 major decision in the semifinal match to Belleville West’s Alex Ramo. Despite dropping in the semifinals, Fulton went on to win his next two matches to secure a third-place finish.
Johnson competed in the 175-class defeating his first two opponents by fall. In the semifinals, he fell by a 19-11 major decision to Pattonville’s Drew Killian. Johnson went on to claim his third-place finish by winning his next two matches by fall in the first round.
At 215, Burroughs captured a third-place finish after winning by fall over Hazelwood East’s Kerrion LeFlore. Burroughs won four of his five matches.
In the 144-class, Max Tesson (18-8) placed fifth after winning three matches and dropping two. At 150, Chris Craven (9-11) won one match and lost three to place sixth.
The boys team will host the Warrenton Tournament this Saturday, Feb. 1.
