A local economic development consultant said the Warrenton Outlet Mall has been pitched to house a national call center in an effort to revitalize the property.Steve Etcher, representing the Greater Warren County Economic Development Council, updated Warrenton city officials last week about recent efforts of the nonprofit organization. The group currently has 16 projects it is working on, including one pending announcement. Seven major projects the GWCEDC has landed since being formed in 2011 has led to 318 new jobs and more than $114 million in private investment, according to Etcher. He didn’t disclose any further details about the outlet mall proposal.“We think we have a very attractive proposal for them with that particular property,” Etcher said at the March 1 board of aldermen meeting. At last Tuesday’s meeting, all five aldermen voted in support of paying the $11,000 invoice covering the 2015-2016 fiscal year. This is the second year in a row the city is contributing that amount. The figure was previously $10,000, but was increased to offset the cost of accounting procedures required by the city.Etcher said the GWCEDC is working on three key initiatives: project development, policy development and existing business support. The GWCEDC is a nonprofit private and public sector partnership designed to pursue job-creating projects and growing existing businesses. The organization’s membership includes local governments, school districts, chambers of commerce and businesses.Other news• Officials announced the condemnation process has started for two properties where easements are needed for an upgrade to the city sewer system. The city and property owners will have until May 25 to settle the issue or a suit likely will follow. The sewer project will carry waste to the treatment facility and for the waste to be effectively treated. The tent will be used for the Fall Festival and other events. The tourism commission recommended approval at its Feb. 23 meeting.• A ways and means committee meeting will be held prior to the start of the next board of aldermen meeting March 15 as preparations for the 2016-2017 budget year begin. The meeting will allow the board to review figures for proposed payroll and water and sewer rate increases.• Ashley Todd was hired as a part-time animal control officer. She began work Feb. 17.
