Administrators in the Warren County R-III School District are encouraging those driving or walking around campuses to be vigilant and aware of new rules.Classes begin in the district Thursday. Assistant Superintendent Dr. Aaron Jones said there will be an increased police presence this year in order to curb some problems that were persistent in the past. The district has hired a new Student Resource Officer, Nick Clark, who will replace officer Dea Bradbury. Clark will be stationed at the high school, while SRO Kevin Swofford will be at Black Hawk Middle School.“When you have that many students driving to the high school and kids walking between cars, if we have people speeding or not paying attention there’s a potential for somebody to get hurt,” said Jones.Similar concerns exist with students crossing Kuhl Street to access Daniel Boone Elementary and the middle school. Jones said a construction delay at the drop-off circle at the middle school could cause some initial congestion, but he expects the new entrance to be available for use once students return from Labor Day weekend.“When it comes to dropping off at the middle school, the safest option is probably going to be for people to come from the south so they are dropping off right by the sidewalk and not having kids cross in front of cars,” said Jones. The district is also adding another cross walk at Kuhl and College streets for the safety of walking students.Another concern in the past has been people driving past or around buses while they are unloading at the schools.“When school buses have their lights on and arms out, please don’t go around them,” said Jones.“It’s against the law whether it’s on school property or not. It’s something we run into frequently and would like to eliminate.”

School Resource Officer Nick Clark joins Warren County R-III this year.
