Verneal Reese

Mrs. Verneal L. Reese (nee: Meyer) of Marthasville, MO, passed away on Monday, January 24, 2022.  She was born on July 11, 1922, in Marthasville to the late Albert and Levonia (nee: Kunze) Meyer.  Verneal had reached the age of 99 years.

Verneal gave her life to the Lord and was baptized on August 6, 1932, then was confirmed on April 10, 1938.  Her confirmation verse was John 3:16.  Verneal was united in marriage to Sylvester Wehmeyer on August 24, 1946, in Holstein, MO.  They purchased a farm and lived there all of their married life.  They raised poultry and livestock.  She and Sylvester enjoyed 35 years together before his passing in 1981.  Verneal remained an active member of Smith Creek United Methodist Church for many years. She enjoyed helping with various activities at church.  Verneal was later united in marriage to Gilbert Reese, on June 20, 2001, in Eureka Springs, AR.  They celebrated 20 years of marriage this past June. She also enjoyed quilting in her free time with other ladies at church.  Verneal was a devoted wife, sister, aunt, and friend to many.

Verneal Reese was preceded in death by her first husband, Sylvester Wehmeyer; her parents, Albert and Levonia; one brother, James Meyer; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Meyer; niece Hermalee Schafer; stepson, Rodney Reese.  Those family members who are grateful for having shared in Verneal's life are, her husband, Gilbert; two sisters, D'Arline Driemeyer and husband Charles, Ruth Smith; nephews, Jay Driemeyer and wife Brenda, Jon Driemeyer, Glen Meyer and wife Cindy, Mike Meyer and wife Kelly; niece, Roberta Simon and husband Ed; stepchildren, Mardiann Bierbaum, Steve Reese, and wife Kim, Kerilyn Nusbaum and husband Bret, Mark Reese and wife Virginia; several great-nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

A visitation for Mrs. Verneal L. Reese will be held on Friday, January 28, 2022, 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM at Smith Creek United Methodist Church.  Funeral services will also be held at the church on Friday, January 28, 2022, beginning at 1:00 PM.  Burial will follow at the church cemetery.  Memorial donations are suggested to the Smith Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery, c/o Martin Funeral Home, 510 East Main Street, Warrenton, MO 63383.  Online condolences may be made at www.martinfuneral.net.
