Where’s Trenton?
That was the trending question among Washington Post 218 Senior Legion fans recently after the team qualified for the Zone 1 Tournament.
Post 218 (26-4) earned a spot in this week’s tournament in Grundy County in north central Missouri.
“The zone tournament will be a real challenge and we will have to be on top of our game,” Post 218 Manager Mike Gardner said. “We are expecting every game to be a battle.”
The tournament will be played at North Central Missouri College starting Thursday.
Trenton is known as the world’s largest producer of Vienna Sausages and is north of Chillicothe on U.S. 65.
Joining Washington in the event are Elsberry Post 226 (24-11); Jefferson City Post 5 (24-6); Moberly Post 6 (22-8); the host Trenton Post 31 Blue Jays.
The tournament starts Thursday with Jefferson City playing Trenton at 5:30 p.m.
Washington then plays Moberly in the 8:30 p.m. game.
Action resumes at 2 p.m. Friday with Elsberry taking on the Jefferson City-Trenton winner at 2 p.m.
The losers’ bracket opens at 5 p.m. Friday with the loser of the Jefferson City-Trenton game playing the Washington-Moberly loser.
The winners’ bracket final is set for 8 p.m.
The tournament gets whittled down Saturday. The winner of Friday’s losers’ bracket game plays the loser from the Elsberry game at 5 p.m. The 8 p.m. game pits the loser of the winners’ bracket against the 5 p.m. winner.
The tournament ends Sunday with the championship game at noon. Should a second title game be required, it will take place at 3 p.m.
The winner advances to the state tournament in Sedalia July 28-30. That’s a four-team tournament with the winner advancing to the Mid-South Regional in Conway, Ark., Aug. 3-7.
