Three Wildcats capture first place

The Wright City girls and boys wrestling teams ended their 2024 portion of the season competing in the Fort Zumwalt East Invitational and the Brentwood Invitational.

The girls team competed at Fort Zumwalt East on Dec. 20 and placed ninth out of 30 teams. 

Caelyn Hanff placed first in the 170-pound class and won all five of her matches. In the championship round, Hanff defeated Kirkwood’s Josie Hosea by fall. She now moves on to a 21-1 record in the season.

Competing in the 120 class, Kali Jensen took home a third place finish after defeating Festus’ Olivia White. Jensen posted a 4-1 record throughout the tournament. Wright City’s Sadie Sehnert also placed third. Competing in the 135 class, she won her third place match over Eureka’s Mira Richardson by fall. Sehnert now holds a 23-1 overall season record.

In the 130 class, Lilliana Wiedemeier finished seventh after winning her match over DeSoto’s Paytan Rulo. Wiedemeier won three matches and lost two throughout the tournament.

Jolee Lockhart competed in the 140 class. Lockhart won three of her matches and lost two. She eventually fell to Kirkwood’s Emily McGlasson in the consolation championship.

Gretchen Stockmann opened up her junior season at the tournament. She won one match and lost two in the 110 class.

The boys team also found success at the Brentwood Invitational and placed ninth overall. Two wrestlers, Joseph Beitel and Lane Graves, placed first in their weight classes.

Beitel, who was competing in the 132 class, won all five rounds. In the championship match, he defeated Valle Catholic’s Ethan Wolk by fall. Competing in the 144 class, Graves was victorious after winning his match over Valle Catholic’s Andrew Schilly.

In the 215 class, Quincy Rice took home a third place finish after defeating Hancock’s Damian Milner. Hunter Shoults finished fourth in the 150 class, while Ayden Dile placed sixth in the 285 class. James Guinn finished seventh in the 120 class.

Ryder Collins and Dominic Harrison both placed 11th in the 157 and 190 class.

Both teams will compete next in the St. Charles Tournament on Jan. 17-18.
