Three-way race for collector

By Chris OrletRecord Managing EditorWith the deadline looming to file for county offices, a three-way race has developed for Warren County collector on the Republican ticket.Marianne M. Keith, New Florence, filed March 7, joining Linda Gant, Warrenton, and Julie Schaumberg, Warrenton, in the race for the job left open by the upcoming retirement of Linda Stude. Stude, county collector since 1991, announced last November that she would not seek re-election to a seventh term.Unlike 2012, when there were no contested offices, this year there are races for presiding commissioner, prosecuting attorney, circuit clerk, collector and treasurer.County, state and federal elections are held in even-numbered years.All candidates who filed for county offices are Republicans.The filing period will conclude at 5 p.m. March 25. The primary election will be held Tuesday, Aug. 5, with the general election to follow on Tuesday, Nov. 4.As of press time, the following have filed for county offices.Incumbent Arden Engelage, Warrenton, and Roger Mauzy, Warrenton, are running for presiding commissioner. Two candidates have filed for circuit clerk, John Cornell, Warrenton, and incumbent Brenda Eggering, Warrenton.Barbara Daly, Warrenton, incumbent county clerk, has filed for re-election. She is unopposed. Randy Lewis, Wright City, and Jeff Hoelscher, Warrenton, have filed for treasurer. That seat is currently held by Gene Cornell.Two candidates have filed for prosecuting attorney, Kelly King, Foristell, and Jennifer Bartlett, Marthasville. Bartlett was appointed prosecutor by Gov. Jay Nixon in January after former prosecutor Michael Wright was named an associate circuit court judge. King previously worked as a prosecutor in the office under Wright.Incumbent County Recorder of Deeds Deborah Engemann, Marthasville, has filed for re-election. She has no challenger at this time. Richard Scheibe, Warrenton, has filed for re-election as associate circuit court judge, Division 2, in the 12th Judicial Circuit. The 12th circuit covers Warren, Montgomery and Audrain counties.Michael Wright, Warrenton, has filed for associate circuit judge Division 3, 12th Judicial Circuit. State FilingsState Rep. Bart Korman, a Republican from High Hill, also filed for re-election on Tuesday in the 42nd District. He was the lone candidate to file as of Tuesday.The 42nd District includes nearly all of Warren and Montgomery counties, with the exception of small areas around Wellsville and Foristell.Incumbent Bryan Spencer (R-Wentzville) was the only candidate to file for the House seat in the 63rd District, which includes Wright City and nearly all of Innsbrook and northwestern St. Charles County.Ed Scheiffer (D-Troy) and Jeanie Riddle (R-Fulton) have filed for Senate District 10, a seat currently held by Jolie Justus (D-Kansas City).
