The Warrenton boys wrestling team continues to find more success as a unit and individually on the mat. Out of a whopping 29 schools, the Warriors placed third at the St. Charles Invitational on Jan. 18.

In addition, Manny McCauley (25-1) has earned a first-place title for the fifth
time in a row this season. McCauley was not the only Warrior to find himself at the top of the podium, as Zayden Teson (16-1) gathered his third first-place medal of the season.

The Warriors also had four fifth-place finishes earned by Nathan Donovan, Max Tesson, Korben Johnson and Lucas Burroughs and one second-place finish garnered by Noah Lohrmann.

McCauley, who competed in the 126-pound weight class, had one bye and four wins. He earned three out of four of his wins by fall, and defeated Fulton’s Cameron Cummins (17-3) in the championship match.

Teson competed at 113. He won his first two matches by technical fall. In the championship match, Teson won by fall over Mexico’s Logan Hilderman (14-2).

At 138, Lohrmann won his first four matches. In the championship round, he went head-to-head with North Point’s Brody Kell (24-3) until the end of regulation. At the end of three rounds, both opponents were tied which took both of them into overtime. Kell eventually won by a 2-1 tiebreaker.

Donovan (11-10) competed in the 106-class and won four of six matches. In the fifth-place bout, he won by fall over Troy Buchanan’s Preston Mix (4-10).

In the 144-pound class, Tesson found success in his first two matches, but fell to Troy Buchanan’s Austin Amos (15-6) in the semifinals. Tesson rallied back in the fifth-place match and defeated Winfield’s Ayden Amos (30-9) in 58 seconds.

At 175, Johnson (14-10) won four matches and lost two to place fifth. After two rounds, Johnson won by fall over Parkway Central’s Ali Mohsen (15-6) to secure his title. Burroughs (11-10) placed fifth after winning a 13-2 major decision over Winfield’s Alexavier Bennett (27-9).

On the girls team, Allison Vacek (16-1) and Alexis Ruff (22-5) both medaled in
their respective weight classes. Competing in the 155-pound class, Vacek earned her third first-place finish in a row. During her first match against Holt’s Adilynn Obergfell (8-19), Vacek won by fall in a swift 21 seconds. In the championship round, she secured her championship title after winning by a 12-2 major decision over Troy Buchanan’s Molly Marischen (29-9).

Ruff competed at 120 and earned a second-place finish. She won her first three matches by fall. Entering the championship round, Ruff fell to Fulton’s Mackinzie Brewer (30-2) in 1 minute, 40 seconds.
