After taking a week off, the Warrenton football team came out strong and ready for their Class 4, District 5 semifinal game against Osage. The Warriors walked away with a dominant 42-7 win, and they will move onto the district championship next Friday.
Starting in the first quarter, Austin Haas quickly scored a touchdown on a two-yard run. Tyler Faerber added on an extra point and the Warriors were up 7-0. With seconds left on the clock, Brandon Johnson threw a 73-yard pass to Austin White to put the Warriors at the one-yard line. Then, Johnson finished the play and added on another touchdown for Warrenton.
The Warriors’ offense barrage did not stop there. In the second quarter, Johnson threw another deep pass, this time for 65-yards, to Mason Thompson who then ran into the endzone. Again, Johnson threw another touchdown pass that was caught by Austin White for a 37-yard touchdown.
With less than a minute on the clock, Osage scored their lone touchdown after catching an interception and the Warriors led 28-7 going into halftime.
In the second half, Haas rushed for a one-yard touchdown and a three-yard touchdown.
Throughout the game, Warrenton’s defense shut down the Osage offense. Javon Jones had three sacks, while Taylor Anderson had two. Haas, Cole Meyer, Jake Mincher and Jack White each recorded one sack. Austin White and Keegan Mellegaard both intercepted passes and Mellegaard blocked a field goal attempt.
After tonight’s win, the Warriors will move onto the district championship to play Hannibal for the second year in a row on Nov. 15 at home starting at 7 p.m.
