Despite what coach John Atwell called the Warrenton football team's best performance of the season, the Warriors were unable to escape the first round of districts with a victory. St. Dominic hung on to remain unbeaten, claiming a 14-0 win. Warrenton overcame three first half turnovers by stepping up on defense to keep the game scoreless at halftime. The Warriors had a chance to take the lead on a 22-yard touchdown pass from T.J. Lafaver to Nick Todd early in the third quarter, but the play was called back on an offensive pass interference penalty. St. Dominic went ahead 7-0 with 3:14 remaining in the period on an eight-yard run. The Pioneers second touchdown took a deliberate 11:00 drive of over 20 running plays to finally break free for a nine-yard score. Warrenton fell to 1-7 and will travel to Borgia next Friday. Additionally, Wright City lost 42-0 in its district opener at Orchard Farm. The Wildcats will host Bowling Green next Friday.
