Marthasville has been working on street improvements for most of this year and they are making slow progress after facing delays from subcontractors.
Right now, work is centralized on West South Street from One Street to Four Street. According to Mayor David Lange that work is part of the second phase of the designed project on roads in the city.
There is also planned work on North Fourth Street from Main Street to North Street.
Lange said that the work on the streets includes widening them where the city’s right of way allows it, installing new water lines and stormwater drains as well as new gutters, sidewalks and paving.
The designs for both streets were put together by Cochran Engineering out of Wentzville, while the city has been completing the work, hiring additional personnel as needed.
The projects are being paid through “unit price bidding” according to Lange, a process in which the city will pay for the improvements as they go, as opposed to awarding one bid to cover all the necessary work.
“A lot of the underground infrastructure work was done over the past year,” said Lange, in an email. “I’d say 75% of the curb and gutter, sidewalk, finished grading and grass seeding behind the curb work is done.”
He continued saying the city is nearing completion on that work and is waiting for other delays before the paving work on the streets is finished.
“As for a timeline, there is no set completion date as with a contracted project, doing this in house, the projects are moving forward as personnel is available and when the subcontractor paving company can get in here,” said Lange.
The city’s paving subcontractor has been facing delays related to other projects.
They are also waiting on work from Ameren to relocate utility poles on Fourth Street so work there can continue.
He did add that the city hopes to complete the projects before the end of fall and that he was appreciative of citizens’ cooperation and patience as work continues.
