With activities geared for all ages, organizers are expecting large crowds for this weekend's Strassenbash festival. The annual event will be held Friday and Saturday at Diekroeger Park in Wright City. This year's theme is "Stars, Stripes and Strassenbash Forever." The annual festival, sponsored by the Wright City Area Chamber of Commerce, features a wide array of entertainment for families, including live music, queen coronation, a baby show, parade, washer tournament and other children's activities. "We have a great lineup of activities," said Brad Schuster, who is serving as Strassenbash co-chair with Kyle Martin. New this year is a Wii bowling tournament, scheduled to begin Friday at 7 p.m. and continues Saturday at 1 p.m. The age groups are as follow: 6-13, 14-20 and 21 and over. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three winners and highest series overall. The entry fee is $10 per person. "We're looking forward to that," Schuster said. Live bands will be featured on both nights. Last Call will perform Friday while American Idle, formerly Boone Project, will play on Saturday. Both bands will perform from 7-11 p.m. Featured activities scheduled for both nights include the Chamber's Person of the Year introduction at 8 p.m. Friday and queen coronation at 6 p.m. Saturday. Friday's events begin at 4 p.m. when the booths and vendors open. At 6 p.m., the Missouri Army National Guard Honor Guard will perform. On Saturday, a 5K run/walk will be held at 8 a.m. beginning at Diekroeger Park. The entry fee is $10. Booths and vendors will open at 11 a.m. The parade is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. Residents are encouraged to line the parade route between Ruge and Diekroeger parks. Top floats will be recognized at 12:30 p.m. The Wildcats Pride marching band will perform at noon, with kids activities and games at the playground to follow at 1:30 p.m. At 2 p.m., the pedal tractor pull, queen dance and washer tournament will begin. The baby show contest begins at 4 p.m., with registration opening at 3 p.m. The festival, Schuster said, is a great way to bring the community together. "It turns into more of a social gathering more than anything," he said. "It's a great community event. It provides exposure for local businesses and charitable organizations." A large number of food and miscellaneous vendors will be present as well, Schuster said. For more information on Strassenbash, visit www.wrightcitychamber.com or call 636-745-7855. "There is always something to do while you're out there," Schuster said. "I hope everyone comes out for a little bit and takes in the fun."
