The Warrenton track and field team competed in the North Point Open on March 28 and had one individual champion.
Senior Avery Shaw was the lone Warrior to come out on top in the meet, placing first in two events. She won both the girls discus and shot put events.
Shaw set a personal record with a throw of 36.53 meters in the discus, just shy of the school record of 37.97 meters. In the shot put, Shaw launched the ball 11.79 meters to secure another first-place finish.
Shaw nearly captured her second triple golden feat but she placed second in the javelin in 30.94 meters. Kirksville’s Brooklyenn Rader-Johnson took the top spot in that event in 32.69 meters.
Junior Makayla Witthaus also had a strong showing, placing second in the girls discus in 28.63 meters and fourth in shot put in 9.77 meters.
On the boys side, junior Javon Jones placed second in the javelin throw with 42.9 meters.
Outside of throwing, Warrenton also found success on the track. Senior Morgan Marschel picked up a second-place medal in the girls 400-meter dash in 1 minute, 2.25 seconds. Incarnate Word Academy’s Ava Tobias took the top spot in 1:00.45.
Senior Dylan Coleman placed second in both the boys 800-meter in 2:10 and the 1,600-meter in 4:57. Coleman finished just over a second behind Elsberry’s Jedidiah Heras in both events.
The Warrenton 4x100 relay team of Bradley Tucker, Drake Brandriff, Isias Hernandez and Isham Keeper placed second with a time of 47.27 seconds. Christian Brothers College High School took the first-place spot with 42.30 seconds.
Freshman Ava Schneider placed third in the girls pole vault with 1.98 meters, while Joseph Greene finished third in the triple jump with 11.86m.
Both the boys and girls teams will compete next at 3 p.m. April 7 at Fort Zumwalt East in the Zumwalt East Throwdown.
