Wright City’s Sean McDonald will continue his football career at Millikin University (Decatur, Ill.) next season.
McDonald led the Wildcats to a 6-5 record last season while at quarterback.
“It was a little bit of a relief because the process was so stressful,” McDonald admitted this week. “There was some problems with FAFSA because everyone has deadlines. Millikin was the only scholarship offer, so if that didn’t work out I was going to walk on at Missouri Western.”
Millikin, an NCAA Division-III program in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, finished 7-3 last season.
The Big Blue are led by quarterback and senior-to-be Nicco Stepina.
“They’re a good team and I’m excited to be a part of that program,” McDonald said. “They have an All-American quarterback right now, so it will be hard to fill those shoes. But it’s going to be enjoyable working under him my freshman year and learning.”
McDonald said he might see the field at quarterback on the J.V. team next fall, but he would have no problem switching positions while he waits for his time.
“If they’re looking for a hole to fill, I’m always willing to help out however I can,” he said. “I’ll play offense, defense, anywhere. I think they have a J.V. team, so I’ll probably play there a little bit so I can get some experience instead of having to wait for varsity time in two years.”
