Safety Festival to be held Saturday

Record Managing Editor Whether it’s spending time on a computer or an ATV, safety is a priority for organizers of the Warren County Safety Festival. The second annual event is this Saturday, Aug. 9, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will be held at the Warren County Health Department, located at 101 Mockingbird Lane in Warrenton off Highway 47. Admission is free. Organizers said numerous organizations and agencies are expected to be in attendance to provide safety-related information. That might mean making sure proper procedures are in place to protect your identify from being stolen while on a computer, or teaching children the importance of wearing a helmet while riding a bicycle. Attendees will be able to receive free bike helmets and have child identification cards made during the festival. There will also be several drawings and giveaways throughout the event. “We’re focusing on safety,” said Peggy Privett, an employee with the health department. “We tried to get all different kinds of things related to safety. It’s safety for the whole family. “We’re trying to get the word out and help them and keep them safe.” The first 200 children will be able to make their own first aid kit. Privett said the children will be able to design the box, and fill it with items such as Band-Aids and Neosporin. Attendees can also bring recyclable materials to be dropped off into a trailer provided by the East Center Missouri Recycling Center. Privett, however, noted that no electric items will be accepted. Also, the Truesdale Police Department is hosting a drug take back program, where attendees can properly dispose of prescription or over-the-counter medicines that are either expired or no longer needed. “With the health fair being in Wright City, we wanted to do something in this direction,” Privett said. “We tried it last year and it went over real good.” For more information, call the health department at 636-456-7474.
