The bridge south of Treloar over Kochs Creek on Route 94 in Warren County will be replaced this year, and the road will be closed during construction. The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded the project to Boone Construction Co. for $622,724.25.“The contractor expects to close the bridge on Monday, April 4,” said MoDOT Area Engineer Erik Maninga. “The bridge being replaced is the one just south of the Route N junction at Treloar,” he added.Motorists will use Route N to Route 47 as a detour while the bridge is closed, approximately two months.“This bridge was built in 1968 and designed for a 30-year life,” Maninga said. The bridge is one lane and posted for vehicles over 13 tons. As part of its original design, the concrete under the deck was built with lightweight concrete around the reinforcing steel. Over time, this concrete deteriorates and there is no effective way to repair it.“As often is the case with bridges, you only get a complete picture of the condition when you look underneath,” he explained.Another bridge just east of this one on Route 94 was built in 1947, just after World War II, yet it is still in fair condition.“We can still allow lighter loads to continue to use the one-lane bridge on this route, because it was built differently than the other bridge and doesn’t have the deterioration like the other one,” Maninga explained. For information about this project, visit www.modot.org/northeast under Road Work, or call MoDOT customer service at 1-888-275-6636 (1-888 ASK MODOT).MoDOT
