A $2,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the people who vandalized a century-old former school building inside the Innsbrook gated community. Authorities said vandals broke windows, damaged a couple of old antique school desks and the ceiling after gaining entry into the former Upper Charrette School building. The culprits also wrote an obscenity on a chalkboard. It's believed the vandalism occurred between June 12 and June 18, according to Dan Dieckmann, Innsbrook director of security. He said the vandalism was discovered by a resident who reported it shortly thereafter. Dieckmann said the vandals likely gained entry into the structure once a window was broken. "It's disappointing that others don't respect history or places of history that they should," he said. According to a sign on the structure, Upper Charrette School was built in 1881 and then rebuilt in 1909. The school then closed in 1941 and the existing structure was restored in 2000. The former school building is owned by Innsbrook. Innsbrook officials are offering the $2,000 reward leading to the arrest and conviction of the people responsible for the damage. Sheriff Kevin Harrison said his department has no leads in the case, but the case remains under investigation. Anyone with information on the vandalism is asked to contact the sheriff's department at 636-456-4332 or Dieckmann at 636-745-3000 extension 402.
