Record Managing EditorWarren County residents interested in receiving severe weather alerts are encouraged to sign up for the CodeRED emergency notification system.CodeRED will provide automated alerts to citizens in the path of severe storms shortly after warnings are issued by the National Weather Service.No notification will be sent if the area is placed under a watch for severe weather.CodeRED is an emergency notification system in which residents may register for to receive alerts by phone, text message or email.“I would encourage residents to have this,” said Mike Daniels, Warren County emergency management director. “They are not always sitting in front of TV or have a radio on.”The CodeRED system was implemented by the Warren County Emergency Management Agency and Health Department in 2013. Residents who previously registered for emergency notifications will need to re-register with CodeRED to receive notifications in the future.Beside severe weather, the notification system can be use to relay other information for incidents such as chemical leaks, missing people or other natural disasters, according to Daniels.Users can also be notified while out of state about severe weather from the GPS coordinates provided from their cellphone.To sign up, county residents can visit the Warren County Emergency Management Agency’s website (warrencountyema.com) or Warren County Health Department’s website (warrencountyhealth.com) and find the CodeRED icon. Residents without computer access can call Daniels at 636-456-3786 and he can provide assistance for those that want to sign up.The only information the county needs is a user’s address, phone number and email address.
