Races set for local elections this spring

Posted

The clock has run out and registration is closed for candidates to get on the ballot for local city government, school board and emergency district leadership elections this spring.

Local municipal elections will take place on April 4, 2023.

The surprise story for last-minute election sign-ups is in the city of Truesdale, where new candidates piled into City Hall on the very last day of election filing to put their names on the ballot. Four more people registered to run for the city’s board of aldermen as current Alderman Robert Green declined to file for re-election.

New candidates for office in Truesdale include Matt Dabbs, a captain of the Warrenton Fire Protection District; former Alderman Rhonda Colombo; and Truesdale residents Christine Hedding and Kari Hartley. They will join Truesdale’s other incumbent up for election, Alderman Jerry Cannon, on the ballot.

In Truesdale, any citizen can be elected to any seat on the board of aldermen, meaning all five candidates will run on the same ballot, and the two that get the most votes will win the two available seats on the board.

Late joiners

There were a couple of other late comers who put their names in contention to help direct ambulance districts in Warren County.

For the Warren County Ambulance District, which operates in the Warrenton, Wright City, and Innsbrook areas, incumbent board member Jonathan Laubert registered for re-election. He’s the only candidate the area labeled Subdistrict 4, which includes Innsbrook and east-central Warren County. No one had signed up to run for the seat until this week.

For the Marthasville Community Ambulance District, board member Alice Kluesner registered to retain her seat representing that district’s Subdistrict 4. She’ll have to run against challenger Camille Johnson.
