Record Managing EditorThough it will open almost a year later than initially expected, steady progress is now being made on a new recreation complex at Innsbrook Resort. The $3.5-million complex will feature an assortment of amenities to be enjoyed by guests and property owners at the gated resort community. It is being built on 31 acres near the intersection of Highway F and Stracks Church Road.Site work began in late 2014, but wet weather this summer slowed construction crews.Rick Schmitt, Innsbrook director of property management, who is the project manager, anticipates the new facilities being open by Memorial Day 2016.On a near weekly basis, Innsbrook property owners like to drive by and visit the site to watch construction.“We are progressing very well,” he explained. “It has been very positive. Most folks are ecstatic. “It is going to be exciting for property owners and kids to enjoy.”The project includes two buildings, a zero-entry pool with swim lanes and a lazy river, playground and outdoor amphitheater. The complex will also feature a large paved area for parking. The east building on the complex will feature a fitness center, laundry facilities, multipurpose rooms, locker rooms, showers and office space. The second building, on the west side, will house a concession area, kitchen, men’s and women’s restrooms, and a storage room.A proposed second phase will include the construction of tennis courts, sports fields and outdoor pavilions. The new complex will be used by weekend and year-round residents as well as vacationers.Significant progress has been made on both of the buildings, with work to move inside during the winter, Schmitt noted. Concrete also has been poured for the 75-foot-long lazy river and the entry to the swimming pool.Once complete, many of the summer events, including the Summer Breeze concerts and Camp Innsbrook kids’ events, will be held at the new facility. The playground will also be the first for Innsbrook Resort.Officials noted that the recreation complex will be popular for property owners watching their grandchildren and for younger adults who are moving to the resort community.“It (the complex) will have a number of uses,” Schmitt said. “It will be more of a recreation destination. The whole area will be family oriented and will attract younger families.”To stay updated on the project, visit innsbrook-resort.com/amenity-complex.Innsbrook
