Record Managing EditorA 41-year-old Lake Sherwood man raped a 15-year-old Ohio girl repeatedly over a three-week period after luring her to his home, authorities allege. The suspect was identified as Christopher D. Schroeder, of the 1500 block of South Lake Sherwood Drive. Lake Sherwood is a private, gated community located in the southeast portion of Warren County.Schroeder is facing federal charges for production of child pornography and transportation of a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, and a state charge for second-degree statutory rape.He remains in federal custody and is being held without a bond.Investigators said Facebook messages helped track down the teen. One of the messages, prosecutors said, read: “I haven’t hurt her, I don’t plan on it, but she keeps crying.” The teen returned home and was reunited with her family last Thursday. The teen girl resides in a Cleveland suburb and was reported missing Nov. 8. Police said the two met in an online chat forum and had been talking for at least two weeks. The girl had told Schroeder she was unhappy at home and he offered to help, then drove to Brooklyn, Ohio, and returned to his home with the teen.Upon meeting her, Schroeder allegedly took the girl’s cellphone, removed the battery and destroyed the SIM card, authorities reported. While being held captive, Schroeder told the girl she was to have sex with him, clean his house and could not use the Internet or telephone unless she received permission, according to a criminal complaint filed in federal court. Schroeder also told the teen not to provide her real name to anyone and that she needed to cut or color her hair and lose weight.Based on information received from the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children, Warren County deputies executed a search warrant at Schroeder’s home on Dec. 1 and rescued the teen. While searching Schroeder’s home, police seized videos showing him raping the girl, according to charging documents. The girl told Schroeder she wanted to go home, but she was afraid to leave because he had numerous guns in the home, according to authorities. After he was taken into custody, Schroeder told authorities that he thought the girl was 18 and that someone else had brought her to Missouri, court records said. However, a search of Schroeder’s vehicle allegedly revealed a receipt from a fast-food restaurant and a traffic ticket, both from Ohio and dated Nov. 8.The federal charges carry penalties ranging from 15 years to life in prison and/or fines up to $250,000.The teen girl’s disappearance drew national attention. About 300 people gathered at a rally for the girl last month, including kidnap victim Michelle Knight and the family of fellow captive Gina DeJesus.Knight, along with DeJesus and Amanda Berry, were held in a Cleveland home for a decade until being freed by police in May 2013.While filming in Cleveland for the movie, “Dog Eat Dog,” actor Nicholas Cage was pictured with a missing flyer for the girl 10 days after her disappearance. The Associated Press contributed to this story.Christopher D.
