A Warrenton man suspected of shoplifting from Chic Lumber on East Veterans Memorial Parkway was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon following a foot pursuit with law enforcement, according to Greg Houdyshell, Warrenton police chief. Charges are pending against the suspect who was identified as James W. Lewis, 22. Police were dispatched to the business after receiving a complaint about a theft from the store, Houdyshell said. Lewis matched a description of the suspected shoplifter given by the store and officers attempted to apprehend him. During the pursuit, Lewis discarded an object which police discovered to be a nail gun believed to have been taken from the store, Houdyshell stated. Lewis was captured in the area of Cherry Street, according to police. Officers from the Truesdale Police Department and the Warren County Sheriff's Department assisted in the pursuit, according to Houdyshell. Authorities noted that Lewis has an extensive criminal history and is facing revocation of his probation in several prior felony cases. Taken Into Custody
