Patriot Riders escorted the body of Sgt. Rodney Griffin from Lambert-St. Louis International Airport to Audrain County on Thursday, April 23. The procession traveled through Warren County on Interstate 70.
Griffin was classified as Missing in Action (MIA) when the helicopter he was on crashed near the Cambodia-Vietnam border on May 2, 1970. The 21-year-old was declared dead in 1974, around a year after the American Prisoners of War were released from Vietnam, officials said.
In February, Griffin's family was notified that his remains were found in a grave near the crash site and matched DNA confirming his identity. Griffin graduated from Centralia High School in 1968. A public funeral service will be held Saturday at the school.
