Warren County fire investigators will be unable to determine the cause of a fire which destroyed a home off Highway 94 in the Bernheimer area of southwestern Warren County Wednesday, March 13.

"We think it started at the back side of the house, but there's nothing left to investigate," Marthasville Fire Chief Jeff Backhaus told The Record. A passerby reported the fire, he stated, noting that the structure was fully involved when the first units — a pumper from Marthasville Station 2 at Treloar and a Marthasville ambulance — arrived on the scene.

Emergency crews were initially notified about 1 p.m., according to Backhaus.

The homeowner, Travis Spindler, was not at home when the fire was reported. There were no injuries.

It took firefighters nearly an hour to bring the fire under control, Backhaus stated, adding that crews were on the scene for about five hours.

A passerby reported this house fire off Highway 94 in southern Warren County Wednesday, March 13, about 1 p.m. The two-alarm blaze destroyed the home. Approximately 30 firefighters from Marthasville, Warrenton, Washington and Hermann responded with six trucks. The resident, Travis Spindler, was not home at the time. Due to the extent of the damage, investigators will not be able to determine the cause. This photo was taken by a member of the Marthasville Ambulance District.
