New Strassenbash queen follows family tradition

By Tim SchmidtRecord Managing EditorWith stacks of 50/50 raffle tickets in her hands, Riley Heiliger was on a mission leading up to Saturday’s Strassenbash queen coronation.Her sales pitch was as convincing to ticket buyers as was her beaming smile to the judges.The Wright City freshman was crowned as the 2015 Strassenbash queen during a ceremony held Saturday night at Diekroeger Park. She succeeds 2014 queen Abigail Zykan.Heiliger wound up selling 1,749 tickets, easily the most of the seven queen contestants and a number that even surprised her on how many she sold. She also was honored for winning the evening gown competition.“All my hard work paid off in the end and if you put your mind to something, it comes out with a good accomplishment,” said Heiliger, who was sponsored by FMB Bank.She can now place her crown next to others in her home. Her older sister, Payton, is a former Strassenbash queen and her mother, Michelle, held the title of Warren County Fair Queen.“Ever since my sister won, I have always wanted to do it,” Heiliger said. “I wanted to live up to my family’s expectations. I wanted to follow the tradition.”Brooklyn Hogan was named first runner-up. She was sponsored by Gastorf Chevrolet. She was recognized for top interview. The Wright City junior was glad to have participated in this year’s pageant.“Yeah, I didn’t win, but the overall experience was pretty amazing,” Hogan said. “Getting to work with everybody was great.”Brittney Wade was selected as second runner-up. She also won for top scrapbook. She was sponsored by First State Community Bank.Samantha Schubert, sponsored by American Oasis, was selected as Miss Congeniality.Other queen contestants were Abby Thomas (Quick Fix), Hannah Rodgers (I-70 Autosports) and Leslie Meyers (Telkamp Construction).The interview and evening gown portions of the contest were held last month.Organizers of the queen pageant noted that the contestants participated in several community service projects, including washing the Wil Heiliger Activity Building and helping set up Diekroeger Park for Strassenbash.Between June and September, the contestants accumulated over 1,000 volunteer hours.Parade, ticket winners announcedKiddie Korral was selected as the winner of the business float division during Saturday’s parade.The Boy Scouts won first place in the open float division. The Wright City High School marching band won for the walking group.In the 50/50 ticket drawing, Judy Sitze won the top prize of $1,544.50. Angie Craig received the second prize of $926 and Robbie Perkins had the third-place prize of $617.80
