The not-for-profit North East Community Action Corporation (NECAC) has been awarded $549,802 in Missouri Housing Development Commission (MHDC) financing for housing rehabilitation, home repair and emergency services programs.MHDC announced approval of the funding at its annual awards meeting Dec. 2 in Columbia. In a competitive field of more than 170 statewide applicants, NECAC was one of 70 agencies to receive funding.NECAC received $366,625 in HERO program dollars for home rehabilitation work in Lewis, Lincoln, Macon, Marion, Monroe, Montgomery, Pike, Ralls, Randolph, St. Charles, Shelby and Warren counties and $98,942 in Housing Trust Fund dollars to provide major renovations at homes in Lewis, Lincoln, Macon, Marion, Monroe, Pike, Ralls, Randolph and Shelby counties.The agency also was awarded $84,235 in Trust Fund dollars for emergency assistance programs and operations in all 12 counties of its service area.“We are grateful to MHDC for awarding NECAC this funding from the many statewide applications it had to consider,” said NECAC President and Chief Executive Officer Don Patrick. “Anytime we have an opportunity to improve the area’s housing stock and provide emergency assistance to our neighbors in need, we welcome it. We know how competitive the process was, and we’re glad to see these dollars coming back to our NECAC region of Northeast Missouri.”Income-qualifying homeowners in Lewis, Macon, Marion, Monroe, Montgomery, Pike, Ralls, Randolph and Shelby counties are eligible to apply for repairs.The funding will provide roof, siding, electrical and plumbing replacements, and disabled accessibility projects. The improvements must meet local building codes.The emergency assistance dollars will be used for programs that will to help clients facing an immediate crisis.NECAC is a 12-county area social service, community health and public housing Community Action Agency that administers and operates programs for the low-income, elderly, youth, handicapped and disadvantaged through partnerships, contracts and grants with government agencies, private businesses and other nonprofit groups.It is one of 19 nonprofit Community Action Agencies in Missouri and part of a national network of 980 agencies.NECAC
