Mike Wright on Texas Murders

Posted
Warren County Prosecutor Michael Wright, president of the National District Attorneys Association spoke out today about the murders in Texas. “On behalf of America’s 40,000 state and local prosecutors and as president of the National District Attorneys Association, I extend my heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of District Attorney Mike McLelland and his wife Cynthia," Wright said. "I also express my profound sympathies to prosecutors across America as we mourn their loss and acknowledge their sacrifice. "It is a travesty and horrible attack on not only the McLelland family and the Kaufmann County community but to criminal justice as a whole," Wright added. "It emphasizes again the dangers of our jobs and all law enforcement as we fight crime and strive to make our communities safe. "Every day men and women go into courtrooms across our country with the sole purpose to do justice in each criminal case and to keep our communities safe," Wright continued. "It is the prosecutor’s charge and duty to uphold the Rule of Law. The murders of Mark Hasse, and now Mike and Cynthia McClelland, are an assault on the criminal justice system and those responsible must be held accountable. "The National District Attorneys Association is coordinating with the Texas District and County Attorneys Association to reach out to the McLelland family, as well as prosecutors in Texas, and offer support from our Justice and Generosity fund as well as provide whatever prosecutorial support is requested. I would also remind all prosecutors to continue to be vigilant with respect to their personal safety and take appropriate steps should they receive any threats or cause for concern," he concluded.

Donations Sought The NDAA is calling on prosecutors and their associations and staff to donate and help Kaufman County Crime Stoppers find the individual or individuals responsible for the murders of the McLellands and Hasse. “With these donations we hope to increase the reward to a level where someone will choose to come forward with information leading to the arrest and conviction of those involved in the killings of these three fine people," Wright remarked. Donations may be made in thee ways: Checks written to the Kaufman County Crime Stoppers should be sent to P.O. Box 261, Kaufman, TX 75142. Go to www.kaufmancountycrimestoppers.org and click the “Support Us” button on the left. That links to a page with a “Donate Button” on the top right which then links to a PayPal account page. People will need to have a PayPal account set up to donate through this link. Significantly larger donations can be wired to the beneficiary account set up with the American National Bank of Texas. A link to bank wiring instructions can be obtained from Jean Hemphill, NDAA director of communications, at jhemphill@ndaa.org. “It is a sad day in the loss of Mark, Mike, and his wife Cindy but at the same time a proud day for prosecutors across the country in showing solidarity and stepping forward for victims and justice ... like we do everyday," Wright remarked. "Doing the right thing for the right reasons. Just another reason I am proud to be a prosecutor and proud to be a part of the greatest organization of prosecutors, the National District Attorneys Association.”
