The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) announced Tuesday, Oct. 27, that it has temporarily closed its unstaffed shooting range at Reifsnider State Forest near Warrenton due to safety concerns stemming from misuse. MDC said in a news release that it is assessing the range to determine what actions may be needed before it can reopen.
MDC operates other public shooting ranges in the St. Louis region. The unstaffed shooting range at William R. Logan Conservation Area near Silex is available for firearms target practice.
MDC also operates two staffed shooting ranges in the St. Louis region: August A. Busch Shooting Range and Outdoor Education Center in Defiance and Jay Henges Shooting Range and Outdoor Education Center in Eureka.
Visitors are reminded to review shooting range regulations before their visit and follow all posted rules while at the range. To report unsafe or unlawful activity, call MDC’s Operation Game Thief Hotline at 800-392-1111 or contact a local conservation agent.
