Ray Kehoe, U.S. Navy veteran from Warrenton, spoke during the Nov. 11 Veterans Day program at the Daniel Boone American Legion Post 180 near Marthasville. Kehoe served from 1956-76 beginning his service as an enlisted chief petty officer, warrant officer, naval lieutenant and retired as a general engineering officer. His most enjoyable experience was training to be an "officer of the deck - underway," someone sho is second in command to the commanding officer on the bridge. Kehoe said all those serving are defenders of the freedom we enjoy.
"We are willing to sacrifice up to and including the sacrifice of our lives," said Kehoe.
During his service on the USS New Jersey, he stopped in Vietnam twice. Kehoe said all who have served our country, whether or not in battle, should be proud of their service.
