Lauck signs with William Penn

After enjoying an outstanding senior season with the Warrenton football team last fall, Kyle Lauck isn’t planning on hanging up his cleats yet.

Lauck will continue his football career at William Penn University next year. He signed his official letter of intent to play football at NAIA school in Oskaloosa, Iowa, on Feb. 5.

“I’m comfortable with it and when I get on the field, nothing else really matters,” Lauck said. “It’s where I feel loose and at home.”

While Lauck always knew he wanted to play football at the next level, his recruitment process began his sophomore year after attending an identification camp.

As he entered his senior year, the offers started flowing in but he did not verbally commit to William Penn until just days before his signing day. He received offers from Kentucky Wesleyan, McKendree University and Southwest Baptist University before deciding on William Penn.

Lauck said he’s excited about not only playing at the next level, but the upgraded facilities at William Penn will be a plus.

“I did have a few options, but I felt that [William Penn] was the best fit for me to thrive,” Lauck said. “They have good facilities I get to work with, good coaches I can work with and it’s where I feel most at home.”

Lauck plans to major in sports management. He said he has aspirations of becoming a football coach.

“I just love football and I don’t want to give it up after college, so if nothing else happens, I’ll become a coach,” Lauck said.

Lauck was a key offensive lineman for the Warriors this fall. He helped Warrenton win a district title and reach the Class 4 state semifinals. He also earned first-team all-GAC North Conference honors.

Lauck will continue a football career that began in first grade. He said he has always embraced the pure enjoyment the sport has brought him.

Next year, he will get to show that at William Penn.
