The Warrenton Lady Warriors earned wins over St. Charles and Winfield to finish with a perfect 10-0 record in GAC North games.

Warrenton (17-9) earned a 60-38 win over St. Charles last week to win their final home game of the season. Warrenton head coach Hannah Logan said the Lady Warriors’ goal on offense was to get the ball in the paint.

“We realized going inside we had the upper hand if we went inside and let Nevaeh (Hill) or Kaelyn (Meyer) score,” Logan said. “Our goal was it had to touch the paint before we shot a three. And that worked out very well for us. Kaelyn and Nevaeh dominated the paint.”

The Lady Warriors led the whole way once they claimed a 4-2 lead early in the first quarter. Warrenton went on a 10-0 run after St. Charles opened the game with a 2-0 lead. Four different Lady Warriors scored on the 10-0 run.

“Our goal was to come out on top and stay up top and keep pushing,” Logan said. “When they came out and hit those two free throws, then it was like, ok, we’ve got to be ready to go. It’s not going to just be a walk in the park.”

St. Charles trimmed Warrenton’s lead to 16-14 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Warriors ended the first half on a 7-0 run to take a 26-18 lead into halftime. Leading 37-28 entering the final quarter, Warrenton opened the fourth quarter on a 8-1 run to put the game out of reach.

Warrenton was led by Hill, who scored 20 points for the Lady Warriors. Kendall Taylor also reached double figures in points for the Lady Warriors in the win. She scored 11 points.

Warrenton clinched the GAC North title the previous game with a two-point win over Orchard Farm. The Lady Warriors completed a perfect conference slate with a 41-39 win over Winfield.

“That was one of our goals was to win the GAC,” Logan said. “Beating Orchard Farm at their place was a very big win. And we came out, ready to go and we kept the lead.”

Warrenton is scheduled to begin district tournament play next week. The Lady Warriors are the No. 5 seed in the Class 5, District 4 tournament. They open tournament play against St. Dominic at 7 p.m. March 2. The Lady Warriors would play in the district semifinals at 2 p.m. March 4 if they win their district quarterfinal matchup. The Class 5, District 4 championship game is scheduled to be held at 6 p.m. March 7. All Class 5, District 4 games will be held at Ft. Zumwalt South High School.
