Warrenton junior Caleb Strauss just finished up his summer basketball season with the St. Louis Gateway Basketball Club, and is preparing for the 2016 high school seasons.
Strauss, who started last season for Mike Uffmann on the basketball court, is also a wide receiver and defensive end on the football field.
Last season Strauss averaged 14.9 rebounds and 10 points and looks to be a focal point for both football and basketball teams this year.
Earlier this week, Strauss spoke with the Record after being named the July Athlete of the Month:
What has been your favorite part of the summer? "Playing basketball all summer and coming in and working out with the team. We’ve been building chemistry and putting in more work than people think we are."
What is the biggest difference between AAU and high school basketball? "The competition. You have to step up your game more in AAU because everyone is basically a really good high school player."
What are you most looking forward to this school year? "The sports. I think that will take my mind off of school."
Favorite NBA player: "(New York Knicks forward) Kristaps Porzingis. I told people on draft night that he’d be pretty good."
Football or basketball? "It’s a tough call. I love each one. It’s a 50-50 call."
What is one thing people might not know about you? "I like to sing, especially in the shower. I just love playing music."
Favorite musical artist: "Future."
Favorite movie: "Four Brothers with Mark Wahlberg. Anytime I can watch that movie, I’ll watch it."
Dream job: "I’d like to be a sports writer or just something in sports journalism. I’m taking sports journalism classes and I’d like to make a career out of it."
What are your persoanl goals this season? "In football, just catch the ball and set my teammates up to win. In basketball I want to break the rebounding record."
