Joseph "Joe" McMahon

Joseph “Joe” McMahon of Wright City passed away on Nov. 19, 2022, at the age of 91, surrounded by his family and loved ones. Joe was born on June 4, 1931, in his home located in Desoto, MO, to Juel and Mac McKee.

He is survived by his two children, David McMahon of Wright City and Deborah Manley of LaBelle, FL; nine grandchildren, Justin McMahon, Heather Cooper, Sarah Mercer, Cody McMahon, Desirae Stevenson, Gabrielle McMahon, Jaymee Kennedy, Crystal Edmonds and John Manley; as well as sixteen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marcella McMahon; as well as his brother, Thomas McMahon; and sisters, Margaret “Maggie” Bethel and Dottie Nimmo

Joe was a decorated veteran of the Korean War, having received the Bronze Star for valor for his actions during the conflict. He dedicated much of his time to the Korean War Veterans Association as well as the Dignity Memorial Homeless Veterans Burial Program, which provides burial services with full military honors for homeless veterans.

He worked as a millwright and served as Chief Steward for skilled trades at the Chrysler Corporation until he retired in 1998, and then served as the Vice President of Local 136 Retirees. He was also a devout Catholic that attended mass daily and helped to organize numerous food pantries, fish fries, church picnics, and other charitable endeavors. He also served as a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

Above all else, Joe was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be sorrowfully missed and will hold a special place in the hearts of all those that had the good fortune of knowing him.

Visitation was on Nov. 28 at Pitman Funeral Home, and a funeral service was held Nov. 29. He was interred at St. Johns Catholic Cemetery in High Ridge.
