Graduates to walk Saturday

This Saturday about 240 seniors will cross the stage to receive their high school diplomas during the Warrenton High School Commencement Ceremony. The graduation ceremony starts at 7 p.m. at the Warrenton High School football field.“One of the things that I really enjoyed with this group are the kids who came forward as leaders in their class to ask for changes or bring things up that they hadn’t done before,” said Principal Dr. Lorraine Raziq. “To see students grow in that capacity, there’s no greater indicator than being involved in what’s going on.”In the case that the ceremony needs to be moved indoors due to bad weather, it will be hosted in the gym. The district will make a decision on venue by 10 a.m. Saturday. This year’s senior class recorded personal bests and school firsts in both sports and academics, engraving an enduring legacy.“Watching the kids say goodbye with each chapter that came to a close was special,” said Raziq. “In the winter you could tell they realized that the end was quickly approaching.”Last week the senior awards banquet was held, with $2.1 million in scholarships being granted, including $83,000 in local monies.“That’s a significant number for local scholarships,” said Raziq. “The number of kids who were touched by the generosity of the community blew me away. I have never seen that kind of local support. I was very impressed.”On Saturday, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Jill Schowe, who is retiring, will step to the podium for a final time. This year’s keynote speaker will be Mandi Boehringer, a 1994 graduate of Warren County R-III.Two student speakers from the senior class, Dylan O’Neal and Chris Vogt, were chosen to speak through a selection process.

Warrenton High School students enter in procession for their graduation in May 2017. This year's graduation is this Saturday, May 12, with the ceremony starting at 7 p.m.
