Gelencir commits to Mo Valley baseball

When Ian Gelencir was five years old, his interest for baseball was ignited. Encouraged by his father, his passion quickly grew and it has only intensified with time.

“I have always loved baseball and my dad always pushed me to play,” he said.

As graduation loomed for the senior at Warrenton High School, he began considering his future. Many of his friends had already set their sights on Missouri Valley College to pursue other college sports, which prompted Gelencir to take a closer look at the school.

After submitting his application, he drove two hours to Marshall to tour the campus — and quickly found it to be the perfect fit.

“I really liked the campus when I took my visit. They have small classes too which is nice since I don’t really like big classrooms,” Gelencir said. “I also really liked their weight room.”

With his visit leaving such a positive impression, his decision was clear.

On March 7, he signed his official letter of intent to continue his baseball career at Missouri Valley College.

“I hope to make new relationships with my new coaches and teammates,” Gelencir said.

Gelencir plays first and third base at Warrenton. These positions will continue to be a focal point for him in college.

As a junior, he was a part of the 2024 Warrenton baseball team’s historic season, helping the  squad win a program-high of 22 games and capture a GAC North conference title.

Although he has not set any specific career goals for himself just yet, Gelencir is eager to take the next step in his baseball journey. His excitement was palpable, though he added there is a hint of nervousness as he steps into a new and competitive environment.

“I’m a little bit nervous too,” he said. “It’s a different change.”

Gelencir plans to major in marketing at Missouri Valley College.
