The story of Archer Alexander, a St. Louis resident, Civil War hero and former slave, will be told at the Warrenton Scenic Regional Library Aug. 27 at 6 p.m.Alexander served as the model for the Emancipation Memorial in Washington, D.C. Author and historian Dorris Keeven-Franke will tell the story of Alexander’s life at the library.Alexander was forced to flee St. Charles County in 1863 after warning the Union Army of the activities of his pro-slavery master. He was awarded his freedom, became immortalized as the face of freed slaves, and was the subject of an 1885 biography.Those interested in attending the library program can RSVP by calling 636-456-3321, visiting the library at 912 S.
