Fellowship Baptist Church in Warrenton will serve as a drop-off point for Operation Christmas Child during the project’s national collection week, Nov. 13-20.
During National Collection Week, donors will fill empty shoeboxes with fun toys, school supplies and hygiene items. Operation Christmas Child, a Samaritan’s Purse initiative, will deliver the shoebox gifts to children living in poverty overseas.
“We have an opportunity to give these simple shoebox gifts that will make a lasting impact on children across the world,” said Warrenton volunteer Melissa Peth, drop off team leader at Fellowship Baptist Church. “For many of these children, this shoebox is the first gift they have ever received. It sends a message that God loves them, and they are not forgotten.”
The regional arm of the international organization, which includes St. Charles, Lincoln, Montgomery and Warren counties, hopes to contribute more than 18,600 shoebox gifts toward the 2017 global goal of reaching 12 million children.
Fellowship Baptist Church, located at 1015 S. State Highway 47 in Warrenton, is one of about 5,000 U.S. locations collecting gift-filled shoeboxes. More than 150,000 volunteers are contributing to the collection.
Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, an international Christian relief and evangelism organization headed by Franklin Graham. Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child has collected and delivered more than 146 million gift-filled shoeboxes to children in more than 160 countries and territories.
