Fall sports set to begin on Aug. 11

Fall sports in Warren County will make their return on Aug. 11 as athletes from both Warrenton and Wright City high schools will have their first day of practice. The Warriors and Wildcats have football, cross country, girls golf, boys soccer, softball and volleyball during the fall season. The two schools will face off against each other in all of those sports this fall.

Wright City Wildcats

The Wildcats will enter the fall season with fresh leadership, welcoming three new head coaches.

Victoria Harris will take over the boys soccer team, aiming to revitalize a program that secured just four wins last season. Practices will run from 6 a.m.-7:30 a.m. all week at Wright City High School.

Stephen McClain will lead the girls golf program to add to his duties as boys golf coach. There will be meetings in McClain’s classroom at 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 11 and 12. The rest of the week, practices will be held at Innsbrook Golf Course, weather permitting.

David Schnell steps in as the new cross country coach. Practices will be held daily from 7 a.m.-8 a.m. at Wright City Middle School.

The volleyball program will hold tryouts Monday through Wednesday from 4p.m.-6 p.m. and practices will follow at the same times on Thursday and Friday. The Wildcats are coached by Shannon Brunnert.

Softball practice will begin at 2 p.m. and end at 4:15 p.m. on Monday, while the remainder of the week is set for 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Fred Ross is back to lead the
program.

For football, there will be a three-hour team meeting/practice meeting from 1:45 p.m.-4:45 p.m. on Monday at the high school cafeteria. The team will hold practices from 3:20 p.m.-5:50 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 3:45 p.m.-5:50 p.m. on Friday. Tyler Rickard is back at the helm for the Wildcats.

Fall sports pictures will take place on Friday, Aug. 15 starting at 2:45 p.m.

Warrenton Warriors

The Warriors return all of the head coaches of their fall teams this year. John Schulte will lead the boys soccer team, Kelly Anderson is head of the girls golf program, Jeremy Collins will coach cross country, volleyball will be led by Kayla Nelson, Chad Berrey will coach softball and football will be led by Jason Koper.

The boys soccer team will practice all week from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

The girls golf team will start the week at Country Lakes Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday from 3:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m. It will practice at Warrenton Golf Course starting at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday. The team will return to Country Lakes on Friday for an hour practice starting at 3:30 p.m.

The cross country team will practice from 3:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m. and have a morning practice on Saturday from 7 a.m.-8:30 a.m.

Volleyball tryouts will take place from August 11-13. Ninth and tenth graders will try out on Monday from 1 p.m.-3 p.m., upperclassmen will take the court on Tuesday from 3:30 p.m.-6 p.m. and all remaining athletes will try out Wednesday from 3:30 p.m.-6 p.m.

The softball team will have practices from 3:45 p.m.-6 p.m.

The football team will practice Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 3:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m., while Thursday’s training will start at 5:30 a.m. and
end at 7:15 a.m. Saturday’s two-hour morning session will start at 8 a.m.
