The Missouri Humanities Council, in partnership with Luxenhaus Farm in Marthasville, will host a variety of workshops this fall, teaching participants of all skill levels about traditional 18th century German folk arts and crafts.Topics offered include ceramic hand-building, storytelling, open fire cooking, woodworking, woodcarving, and candle making.Luxenhaus Farm is located at 18055 State Highway O, Marthasville. The workshops will be held at different times Sept. 8, 9, 15, and Oct. 6, 13.These workshops will serve as pilot programs for eventual permanent programming between Missouri Humanities Council and Luxenhaus Farm. Luxenhaus Farm is known regionally as the location for the Deutsch Country Days Festival that was held every October for over 30 years.Luxenhaus Farm is dedicated to celebrating and preserving the German heritage of Missouri, and was a natural partnership when Missouri Humanities Council began its own German Heritage program a few years ago.Luxenhaus Farm owner, Bob Hostkoetter, is passionate about expanding programming to include historic craft demonstrations and other educational programs.Missouri Humanities Council is developing an interpretive plan to ensure that the property is used to its fullest potential for years to come.A full schedule with workshop descriptions is available at www.mohumanities.org/programs/heritage/.All the workshops are free, but space is limited, so advanced registration is required. Registration is available at www.mohumanities.org/programs/heritage/.Or contact Caitlin Yager at 314-781-9660 of caitlin@mohumanities.org.
