For recent Warrenton High School graduate Emalyn Turner, cheerleading has always been more than just a sport – it has been a consistent source of joy.
Whether it was cheering on the sidelines at her brothers’ football games, taking on competitive cheer or getting ready for her first game in little league, it has been a constant for Turner in the past nine years.
“It’s just always been something that I loved and that brought me joy,” Turner said. “Once the season was over, I knew I didn’t want to leave (the sport) just yet.”
Now, her career has transformed to the next level as Turner signed her official letter of intent to Missouri Valley College where she will compete on their stunt and Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) teams.
“I was set on going to community college but my friend goes there and I’ve been interested in it since then,” Turner said. “It’s close to home and I just love the team and the atmosphere – they’re very welcoming.”
Although stunt is a recent addition to her sporting career, Turner quickly found a passion for it. Warrenton’s 2025 season marked the school’s debut year for stunt , and Turner was eager to be part of it.
“One of the best feelings I’ve had throughout my career was winning that first stunt game. It’s just different than cheer,” Turner said. “Once Warrenton started the program, I knew I definitely wanted to do it and I’ve just fallen in love with it.”
Looking ahead to college, Turner said she is not only enthusiastic for the opportunity to compete but to also share the campus with some familiar faces.
“I’m excited to be able to take that next step of life with people that I know and not having to go out and do it on my own,” Turner said.
Outside of athletics, Turner plans to study at Missouri Valley’s nursing school with aspirations to receive her Bachelor’s of Science in nursing and become a labor delivery nurse.
