The first day of candidate filing for next April’s elections saw many incumbents preparing to keep their seats.
A number of city council, school board and emergency services positions are up for election throughout the county. Candidates must file for the election several months ahead of time. Candidate filing is open until Tuesday, Jan. 16.
Those interested in running for office should contact the relevant political district and inquire about any filing fees and eligibility requirements.
In Warrenton, all the aldermen whose two-year terms are ending have filed for re-election. They are Mike Shilharvey, Ward 1; Scott Schulze, Ward 2; Bob Delaloye, Ward 3; and Greg Costello, Ward 1, for a one-year term.
In Wright City, current Mayor Dan Rowden has filed for re-election for a two-year term. Former alderman Jim Toothman has filed to return to a two-year seat on the city board representing Ward 2, the seat currently held by Tom Dixon. No one yet has filed for either Ward 1 seat up for election this year.
Truesdale’s current mayor, Chris Watson, has filed for election to finish the remaining year of the term in which he was appointed. Current aldermen Shalene Blackwood and Mike Thomas have filed for re-election to two-year terms.
The sole Marthasville Board of Aldermen candidate to file for election Tuesday is Eugene Jenkins. He will run for the West Ward seat, two-year term currently held by Christopher DeVore.
Current Innsbrook Trustees Tom Stevener and Ted Sator both filed to keep their seats for another two years.
Incumbent Foristell Ward 1 Alderman Mark Meyerhoff has filed to retain his two-year seat on the board of aldermen. Fellow incumbent John Pickering has filed for an open one-year term representing Ward 2. An open two-year seat as Ward 2 alderman has newcomer William Huth as its sole candidate so far.
For the Warren County R-III School Board, incumbents John Clinger and Dr. Chad Smith have filed for another three-year term each.
Wright City R-II School Board has one incumbent, David Mikus, who has so far filed for re-election to another three-year term.
The Washington School District Board’s two incumbents up for re-election, Kevin Blackburn and John Freitag, have both filed for additional three-year terms.
In the Wright City Fire Protection District, three candidates have filed for seats on the board of directors. Current director Rudy Jovanovic is running for another six-year term, as is fellow incumbent Mike Gantner. Justin Fears, owner of Phobius Haunted House, is a new candidate filing for one of two open seats with four-year terms.
No candidates filed Tuesday for director seats for Warren County Ambulance District, Marthasville Community Ambulance District or Warren County Emergency Services (911) Board.
