By Cindy GladdenRecord Staff WriterAn Eagle Court of Honor assembled Sunday, March 16, to recognize Scott Chisholm, 18, Lake Sherwood, who recently achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. The ceremony was held at the Legion Hall in Marthasville.Chisholm is the first young man to attain the rank of Eagle Scout in Marthasville's Troop 359, according to Osage District Executive Ken Etter. It was a huge moment for his parents, Scoutmaster Dave and Kaye Chisholm, who have been his greatest support."It is one of the proudest moments of my life," said the emotional Scoutmaster. "I can't tell you how much it means to me, the troop and my family."Steve Eissinger, a former Scout commissioner, summarized Chisholm's journey on the path to becoming an Eagle Scout. From Cub Scout, which seals membership, through becoming a Tenderfoot, First and Second Class Scout, Chisholm had earned more than 100 badges at that point. The next step was Star Scout, then Life Scout and finally, the Eagle Summit."Scott has spent a great deal of time and effort and this day should be memorable," said Chisholm's godfather and Eagle Scout, Eric Franklin. He said Eagle Scout is a "coveted rank.""Ninety-three percent don't get there," said Franklin. "It's not the dreamers, but the achievers who make it. It's not the badge, but what you did to get the badge."It wasn't always easy for Chisholm, according to his father who served as his Scoutmaster and mentor. There were times when Chisholm didn't think he could live up to expectations.Larry Brewe, American Legion Post 180 commander, also has served as a mentor to Chisholm."I called you Mr. Chisholm on behalf of what you have accomplished," said Brewe.Chisholm received a House of Representative resolution in acknowledgement of his "performance based achievement" and listed many of those. The resolution was presented to Chisholm by Assistant Scoutmaster Susan Ehlenbeck on behalf of Missouri State Rep. Bart Korman."People look at you differently when you are an Eagle," said Scott Chisholm. "I was on that path and it became something that I wanted."Chisholm said his most memorable experience was leaving home for his first summer camp with the Scouts. In order to complete the rank of Eagle Scout, Chisholm designed and implemented the building of an outdoor classroom behind the Grabs Museum in Marthasville, not far from the elementary school.Under his direction other Scouts helped him build a wooden stage and log seating in the outdoor amphitheater.Chisholm's sister, Amanda, who was a faithful companion to many of the Scout events, said her brother has come extremely far in his journey to the rank of Eagle Scout and had worked "really hard to get there."Amanda was one of a large contingent of Chisholm's family members who were present Sunday to see him receive his Eagle Scout pin.
