County Advances EEZ Plan

Only one more requirement remains to be fulfilled before an application to create an enhanced enterprise zone (EEZ) is sent to the Missouri Department of Economic Development (DED). Following a public hearing Thursday, the Warren County Commission unanimously voted to adopt a blighting ordinance and to support the proposal. Of the five governing boards which needed to formally support the proposal for the plan to more forward, only the Wright City Board of Aldermen still must take action. The item is on the agenda for the Wright City Board of Aldermen meeting set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 23. The cities of Warrenton and Truesdale, the Village of Pendleton all demonstrated support for establishment of the EEZ, according to Steve Etcher, executive director of the Boonslick Regional Planning Commission. Etcher served to present the plan to the various communities in an effort to obtain support for the plan. If the proposal receives the support of Wright City, the required paperwork will be submitted to the DED for consideration. A decision could be made by early June.

Grey Jackson, an economic development incentive specialist with the Missouri Department of Economic Development, answers a question during a public hearing held by the Warren County Commission Thursday, May 23, on establishment of an enhanced enterprise zone for the county.
