A crowded field emerged for county coroner on the first day of candidate filing for county and state offices.The three candidates who filed Tuesday were incumbent Glenn Craig, Denise Mauzy and Tom Massman.Craig has held the position since January 2015 when he was appointed by Gov. Jay Nixon to fill a vacancy created when Roger Mauzy, the previous coroner, won a race for presiding commissioner. Craig, who was appointed as a Democrat, is running this time on the Republican ticket with Denise Mauzy, Roger’s wife, and Massman.The filing period will end Tuesday, March 29. The primary election will be held Aug. 2, with the general election Nov. 8.The only other race to form Tuesday was for public administrator. Incumbent Eugene Buxton will face Melissa Dempsey.Like Craig, Buxton was appointed by the governor to fill a vacancy last year. He also served as public administrator from 1988-2000.Other incumbents who filed on the opening day were Northern District Commissioner Dan Hampson, Southern District Commissioner Hubie Kluesner, Sheriff Kevin Harrison and Assessor Wendy Nordwald.All of the candidates are Republicans.No candidates have yet to file for surveyor. The position is currently held by Robert Lewis.Two Republicans, Bart Korman and Bryan Spencer, are both seeking re-election to the Missouri House.Korman is running for a fourth two-year term representing the 42nd District, which encompasses all of Montgomery County, a large portion of Warren County and southwestern St. Charles County.Spencer is currently in his second term in the 63rd District, which includes Wright City and nearly all of Innsbrook and northwestern St. Charles County,Both candidates are currently unopposed.Presidential primary
