The Warren County Commission is in the process of reviewing drawings for a proposed county seal. The winning artwork will be used to create the seal that will be displayed at the county’s new administration building. The county received 12 submissions, though some individuals submitted multiple drawings. Overall, commissioners said they were glad to see local residents take the time to submit a drawing. “I think it was a broad spectrum of ideas and a lot of creative work went into this knowing the seal will be part of this county for a long time,” Northern District Commissioner Dan Hampson said. The entry deadline was Sept. 30. The only requirement was the seal had to be drawn by a county resident and drawn inside a circle that was part of the entry form. The seal contest was open to citizens of all ages. After reviewing the seal drawings for the first time Monday, commissioners said the entries will be further reviewed by elected county officials and local art teachers for further input. The names of the artists will remain anonymous from the county commission until a winner is selected. The contest winners are expected to be announced by the end of November. Commissioners said the winning designs will be judged on what best represents the county’s image. One design may be selected or ideas from multiple submissions could be integrated into the winning seal. The winning entry will be professionally created by Treanor Architects, the firm that designed the new administration building. “There are going to be some tough decisions to come to a conclusion because we have so many good ones,” Southern District Commissioner Hubie Kluesner said. The county seal will be prominently displayed in two locations at the county administration building currently under construction. The seal will be featured as big as 5 feet in diameter above the facility’s main outside entrance and will be 3 feet in diameter inside the commission’s chambers on the building’s second floor. Construction on the administration building is expected to be complete in April 2012. The new facility, located along South Highway 47 and Mockingbird Lane in Warrenton, will house all non-court related offices.
