A June boil order could have lasting effects for the city of Marthasville. In early June, the city issued a boil order after lightning struck a well on Pecan Street, leading to a loss of power and the well to stop pumping.According to a press release by the city of Marthasville, once water levels reach a certain minimum level in storage tanks or pressures are too low, precautionary boil advisories go into effect which require follow-up water samples that must pass before the boil advisory can be lifted. As a result from the loss of power the city also learned the altitude control valve is not working properly, which should have allowed for well #2 up at the stand pipe to feed the other two water towers and prevented the low water and low pressure issues. As part of an agreement with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources to lift the boil order, Marthasville Public Works Director Brad Landwehr said the city will have to make improvements to its water system.“Some of the stuff is just recommendations,” Landwehr said. “One of the things I could not find is a (Marthasville) lead rule and you have to have an ordinance for that.”Other recommendations by DNR include having the city water tower and facilities inspected.“They are due for inspection next year,” Landwehr said. “We may want to push that up. As long as we have a plan to have it inspected, then they would be satisfied. Maybe we could do that this fall. Since the top hat has already been complete, we are waiting on that report. That was part of them releasing us from the boil order.”Landwehr said Marthasville had an inspection done to its facilities days before the lightning strike that led to several recommendations from DNR, which Landwehr said he has already begun to put into place. Landwehr said he would keep the board apprised. The board also:Approved appropriating funds to complete work on Hiawatha Drive.Approved Cori’s Twin Gables, Infield Sports Bar and Grill and S&R Convenience for liquor licenses.Received asphalt bids for an upcoming city project.Kitchen sink
