City finalizes contract for sidewalk project

A contract for engineering services related to a sidewalk project in Wright City has been finalized.An ordinance between the city and Cochran authorizing design and construction inspection services was passed unanimously at the March 26 board of aldermen meeting.Cochran, of Wentzville, will be paid $17,401.87 for design services and $20,900.60 for construction inspection services.Wright City was awarded a $191,760 grant through MoDOT’s Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) to construct new sidewalks on Bell Road between Westwoods Road and the North Service Road, and on Wildcat Drive between Westwoods Road and the North Service Road.The city will be responsible for 20 percent of the cost, which amounts to $47,939. The total estimated cost is $239,699, according to Karen Girondo, economic development director/treasurer.City officials hope the sidewalk project is completed by the end of the year.They believe the sidewalks will make it safer for pedestrians walking to and from nearby schools and businesses.TAP provides federal funds through a competitive selection process for transportation-related activities and cannot be used for routine highway and bridge construction.Wright City
