Catch the Glow Set for Saturday

Jenny Hoffmann remembers standing on the main stage at last year's Catch the Glow and looking off into the distance. All she saw was throngs of people standing and having a good time. "At that time, I couldn't see one space of asphalt," said Hoffmann, Warrenton recreation director, who is looking forward to another great turnout at this Saturday's annual street festival. Catch the Glow, held in downtown Warrenton on Main Street, will feature 10 hours of free entertainment, including a car and motorcycle show, inflatables and music. Hoffmann said band members from Contagious estimated that 3,000 people were in attendance when they started playing last year. "It' s a relaxed setting," she said. "When the sun goes down and it cools off that is when the crowd picks up. It's a a well-established event. It's great to be part of such a strong event and build on it each year." The event will feature the same bands as last year - Contagious, The Road Kings and Kansas City Street Band - which were well received by the huge crowd. "I had comments that night to book them (again)," Hoffmann said. The Kansas City Street Band will be the opening act on the main stage with a performance from 2 to 6 p.m. The group plays oldies and Motown hits. The Road Kings will feature a blues style of rock from 6 to 8 p.m. on the second stage. The headline band will be Contagious, a popular rock band out of St. Louis. The group will perform from 8 p.m. to midnight on the main stage. Contagious is "a high energy rock band that will get crowds on their feet," Hoffmann said. Robbie Fox, Contagious guitarist, said the band is excited to return to Warrenton. "We didn't know what to expect (last year) and it was much better attended than anybody expected," he said. "We were playing to faces. For us it was cool to get that feedback." Fox added the band's song list ranges from ‘80s rock to current hits. "Everybody out there will find something they like," he said. "The show is entertaining. It's certainly energetic." Catch the Glow will begin at 8 a.m. with a 5K run/walk beginning in front of the courthouse. Participants can register on the day of the race. The entry fee is $17. The top overall male and female winners will receive gift certificates. Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each division (13 and under, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 and over). A car and motorcycle show will follow beginning at 2 p.m. and ending at 8 p.m. An awards ceremony will be held at 8 p.m. as separate People's Choice, Participants Choice, Show Stopper and 20 random participant plaques will be presented. Registration for the car and motorcycle show is free. The first 100 registrants will receive free dash plaques. Hoffmann said any car not in place by 2 p.m. will be turned away. Children also will be able to enjoy seven inflatables at no charge from 2 to 8 p.m. In addition, numerous food and beverage vendors will be on hand, selling beer, ice cream, gyros, barbecue, funnel cakes, fried cheesecake and more. Hoffmann said attendees can bring their own coolers, though she noted glass bottles are prohibited. The Warren County Historical Society also will have numerous artifacts on display at its museum, located at 102 W. Walton Street, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The special event theme is "John Wayne and the American Frontier." Multiple John Wayne movies will be screened during the event and numerous frontier artifacts will be on display. The Warren County Old Threshers will sell food outside the historical society building.
