Warrenton Post 122 Senior Manager Scott Butler has resigned his position, he announced after the season.
Butler managed the Seniors for two seasons, and was an assistant coach with the Freshman team three years ago.
This summer he led Warrenton to an 11-9-1 record.
“It was a tough decision to step down since I played for the Legion program as well,” he said.
Butler accepted the junior varsity baseball head coaching job at Warrenton, and said the guidelines and rules that go along with high school coaching would have made his summer position hard to maintain.
A recent engagement added another obstacle.
“Legion is a big commitment and is completely voluntary,” he said. “As much as I love and have a true passion to coach the game of baseball, I needed to step down and take care of my personal life and prepare for my wedding.”
Butler said his favorite memory with the Legion program was advancing to the zone tournament last summer.
“It was a big step forward for our program in the right direction,” he said. “It reminded me of a season when I was playing when we were one game away from winning the district championship.”
As for the players, he admitted it was hard to single out just one.
“All the players that have left the program since I have started will always be remembered,” he said. “I will always be thankful for what they did for us and the program. And for the guys that I’m leaving behind, I just want to say I’m sorry but this is something I have to do for myself.”
