Blue and Gold proves to be a success

The Blue and Gold Scholarship Auction, a beloved annual event, proved to be another outstanding success this year. On March 15, Wright City parents, administrators, community members and friends gathered in their best “Lasso and Lace” attire for an evening of fundraising.

The yearly event at the Wright City Lions Club helps raise money for the high school graduates who plan to further their location at the college level. Money from ticket sales and auctioned items go towards the scholarship fund.

In terms of revenue, committee member Jackie Nierman said the event brought in around $130,000 in donations.

“We really appreciate the generous support of the Warren County community,” Nierman said. “It’s great to have those who have been previous scholarship recipients attending now and giving back to this fundraiser that supported them when they started out.”

This year’s auction was especially significant, marking the 25th anniversary of the Blue and Gold Scholarship Auction.

Nierman credited the hard working staff of volunteers and committee members, noting that planning for the auction began months in advance.

“We have a great crew that works together and we have fun with the auction,” Nierman said.

The fundraiser started off strong in the dessert dash, which raised a record-high of $16,500. The top tables this year bid $1,800 and $1,500.

The dessert dash is a competition where the table that puts in the most money gets its first choice from a huge array of desserts, ranging from gooey butter cake, pecan pies and a cake shaped as a cow.

“So many who attended our event had high praises for us about how well organized we are (with the) decorations, food and the fun time,” Nierman said.

Wright City graduates of the 2022 class and previous scholarship recipients Adison Fast and Abigail Guinn also gave their thanks to the event. Both alums are currently attending nursing school and will graduate later this year.

“I want to thank everybody here,” Guinn said. “It takes away the financial stress for all of us, so thank you.”

Auction items such as reserved seating at Wright City High School graduation and naming rights to local entities proved to be hot commodities in the crowd.

“It’s just wonderful the support we get from the community.”
